Seattle Salsa Dance Experience: Salsa Dance Tips
Salsa Dance Tips
Rhythm is by far the most important element to dancing.
Meaning, you need to dance on the beat throughout the entire song which is the basic fundamental. Learning the beat is probably the hardest thing to learn. Try to find the one on the 8 count when listening to salsa music. Remember to pause twice when your dancing to salsa music.
Spotting is very helpful when doing turns with your partner.
When a person turns he or she spots an object to make the turn easier and at the same time to prevent dizziness. For instance, you might spot your partners face or shoulder which keeps your eye on the object while your body completes the entire turn.
Resistance is very important when salsa dancing with a partner.
Their needs to be a constant push and pull when salsa dancing. You need to push and pull with your finger tips. Make sure to have strong resistance with your forearms when pushing and pulling your partner. Remember to use your forearms for resistance and not your shoulders
Eye Contact is a necessity when dancing with your partner.
When applying eye contact correctly it makes the dance flow more smoothly and elegantly. It also makes your partners life much easier when your making your facial expressions which dictate what your going to do. T
Try not to anticipate when following ladies.
One major problem is that their are many women dancers who anticipate moves. It looks much better when a woman reacts to a lead rather than anticipate a move.
Cut down the size of your dance steps.
Make your steps from a 1/2 foot to 1 foot length. By shortening your step length it will give you better control and balance. Your style will probably also look cleaner.
