About the Steel Pig BBQ:
The Scene
This cheery joint goes one step further than most barbecue places–it looks like an actual decorator has offered some advice. Bright yellow walls, colorful murals and long communal tables are pleasing without detracting from the real reason everyone's here: The meat. And now on Wednesdays…the salsa dancing!!
The Food
Come hungry–even small plates come with an array of sides and fresh, sweet corn muffins. The sauce here is decidedly on the sweet, vinegary side. Ribs fall right off the bone, and the baked chicken, slathered with mild, sweet sauce, defines the word "succulent." Kids and North Carolina natives will love the sauce, but spice lovers should request extra heat. Fried catfish has a crispy cornmeal coating, while the pulled pork is gussied up with an excellent toasted French roll. Opt for potato salad or mac and cheese for sides.

Jerry Rivera Live in Seattle
July 11, 2008
Showbox (sodo) 1700 1st Ave. South Seattle WA
About Jerry Rivera:
Geraldo Rivera Rodriguez was born on July 31, 1973. Jerry is originally from Humacao, Puerto Rico, but he grew up in Levittown, near Toa Baja on the central northern coast of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. Siblings include Saned, Edwin, Ito, and José, who all have careers in salsa (one of his brothers was with Puerto Rican Power). Edwin "Pino" Rivera, his father (a trio singer), made the demo tape when Jerry was just fourteen and a half years old. In an interview with Maria Conchita Alonso (for "Al día con Maria Conchita"), Jerry talks about how sure his father was that he would succeed. He and his father sing together in the trio songs "Entrega" and "Hiereme sin compasion" in the most recent production "De otra manera." Jerry is also accompanied by his father's trio in his latest CD "Jerry Rivera para siempre." Jerry's first CD, "Empezando a vivir" came out when he was only fifteen. In his ten year career, Jerry has compiled quite a resumé, not limited to the musical arena.

Aventura is one of the most unique and innovative artists on the scene today. After more than ten years of sparring in the music business, these four young, dynamic guys with a seldom-seen chemistry continue to auto-produce soulful, original music that gleams with excellence. They are the first “Bachata-boy band,” the first band to fuse the essence of bachata with R & B, hip hop and other American pop styles; the first Bachata band to perform in English, Spanish and “Spanglish.” Aventura is also the first bachata group to feature songs that address serious life situations, delighting fans in the process, such as “Amor de madre,” “Hermanita”, “Papi dijo” and “La niña.”
When Aventura performs its songs, Dominican/Caribbean culture fuses with the vivid tapestry of New York’s dynamic melting pot.
